New Year, New Look

We return to 2026 with a new look, to help us make a bigger impact in our work using the law to drive climate action in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Developed with the generous support of Jory and Co

Why we’ve changed our look

2026 marks our seventh year as an organisation.

We started in 2019, just as New Zealand’s climate laws were in their infancy. Back then, we were a small group of lawyers wanting to use our legal skills to make a difference, after noticing a gap for a coordinated and strong legal voice on climate issues in New Zealand.

Since then, we’ve grown to an organisation with around 400 members from across Aotearoa New Zealand and a small core team of legal staff. We’re unafraid to speak truth to power and have developed deep expertise in climate law and advocacy. We’ve filed strategic climate litigation that’s helped shift the dial on climate action, held governments and big polluters to account, and become an active and respected voice on law reform and climate issues in New Zealand.

Our original brand was made by a fantastic volunteer in 2019. But as we look to the future and continue to grow and evolve as an organisation, it’s time to level up and improve the way we communicate our mahi.

What it means

Our new look brings together three key ideas.

Our organisation brings together hundreds of New Zealand lawyers with the shared mission of using the law to take meaningful action on climate change. The thumbrint captures that sense of responsibility and identity - but also reflects the idea that we, as society, can shape and use the law. The law is shaped by all of us, and we can make our mark on how our legal system addresses climate change.

The curved lines suggest weather patterns and isobars, showing a system that’s under pressure and reflecting the science that drives our urgent work.

Aotearoa New Zealand sits neatly in the negative space, a clear reminder of who our work is for and what is at stake.

Our new brand is human, urgent, and grounded in place - a visual expression of using the law to secure a fairer, safer future for all of us, with New Zealand front and centre of climate justice.

What’s next in 2026

We’re laser-focused on using our legal system to protect our climate.

This means advocating for strong climate laws and contributing to law reform processes.

It also means ensuring those laws are enforced. This is why in March 2026, we’re heading to the High Court to challenge the Government’s Emissions Reduction Plan for the first time. We’ll continue pressuring decision-makers to follow the law and meet their climate obligations.

We’re also equipping lawyers with tools and opportunities to contribute. We’re scaling up our pro bono matching network, where we connect community groups from across Aotearoa to pro bono and low-bono climate lawyers. We’re also co-hosting the 2026 Climate Litigation Conference.
